MARRIOTT BUZZ NO. 16 - 2019

22 21 The Cairo Marriott Hotel and Omar Khayyam Casino is committed to the highest standards of corporate social responsibility and giving back to the community in the many ways in which it can. As part of the company-wide Serve 360 initiative which aims at “Doing Good in Every Direction” the hotel collaborated with several other Marriott International hotels in Egypt for the annual Road to Awareness cycling event, a campaign organized on behalf of the hotel’s business council which is geared towards honoring the four key outreach areas to; nurture, sustain, empower and welcome the communities in which Marriott hotels are operating. This year’s Road to Awareness cycling event was dedicated towards raising funds for Dar Al Sondos Orphanage for Children with Special Needs, and took place in July at the Westin Cairo Golf Resort and Spa at Katameya Dunes. Over fifteen Marriott Egypt hotels collaborated on the initiative to cycle for a cause and spread awareness on the importance of serving the community, fulfilling one of the core values of Marriott International to Serve Our World and that of the Serve 360 policy. During the event, an auction was announced for the participants to bid for the a stay in one of the Marriott Egypt’s participating hotels, all of which offered the chances for generous and sought-after prizes free of charge in addition to the cash donation that was made on behalf of each participating hotel for Dar Al Sondos Orphanage. The collective efforts managed to garner a total of 100,000 Egyptian Pounds for the orphanage and the day came to a conclusion with a group photo, which the children, event organizers and cyclists now have as a memory of their compassion and commitment to this noble cause. This year’s event was inspired by Marriott Bonvoy travel program. The Sohour event gave guests the opportunity to enroll in the Marriott Bonvoy program, snap memorable photos in the Marriott Bonvoy branded photo booth and of course, enjoy a selection of catered treats and bites from all corners of Egypt’s broad cuisine at four customized food stations, with each serving up different local delicacies. One of the most popular favorites of travel and exploring diverse cultures is experiencing them through their cuisines by sampling the local recipes. Therefore, the Cairo Marriott decided to give special prominence to this aspect by honoring the local cuisines of distinct regions across Egypt. These ranged from the northern regions, previously known as Lower Egypt in Pharaonic times, of Delta, which is situated in amongst the Nile’s numerous regions and tributaries. As well as Upper Egypt’s rural Sawahleya on the shores of Alexandria and off the mainland, the mountainous region of Sinai, which connects Africa with Asia. Dishes from these localities were available for the guests to sample at the live cooking stations where they were able to witness their dishes being prepared fresh and in their presence with skill and passion. In addition to these comforts, a full entertainment program was devised for the guests to partake in and enjoy. The line- up included a live performance by Egyptian singer Mohamed Adaweya and the Takhtista Band, who entertained the guests in a one-of-a-kind show of melodic beats and pitch- perfect vocals. Upon leaving, guests were gifted a collection of natural cosmetic products as an introduction to the Cairo Marriott’s newly opened sublime Saray Spa. 23
