29 S E R V E 3 6 0 Marriott teams up with UNICEF to Aid Orphans in Adrenaline-Fueled “Row TO Awareness” In the latest bid to give back to the country’s underprivileged communities, Marriott International Hotels in Egypt teamed up with UNICEF to raise funds for a variety of different charity projects. The “Row to Awareness” campaign is an annual fundraising campaign between UNICEF and Marriott Hotels in Egypt, this edition as no exception proved to be an immense success amongst both the participants as well as the beneficiaries, who thoroughly enjoyed the spirited sporting competition. This year’s event was dedicated to raising funds for the children of Dar El Sondos Orphanage. Each year, Marriott associates throughout all the continents and countries organize fundraising events to help secure much needed resources for children’s charity projects, to aid them in developmental and educational ways, such as providing clean water to rural disenfranchised communities. This year’s initiative took the form of a hugely successful “Row to Awareness” boat race along the river Nile. The rowing race was organized on behalf of the community of Marriott associates across all 19 of the company’s domestic properties, who took part in the race inside 8 dragon boats embarking on the banks of the Nile at the Egyptian Rowing Club. Each boat represented each of the eight brands of Marriott hoteliers operating in Egypt; Marriott Hotels, JW Marriott, Sheraton, Westin, Renaissance, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis and Le Meridien. The end of the race saw three deserving winners acknowledged by a warm and informal celebratory reception at the Rowing Club.
