25 definitively art brut or ‘outsider art,’ a school in which Zamzami fittingly and naturally finds his work most akin to. Following this, Safarkhan’s walls featured the works of the talented young debutant Ahmed Saber, whose inaugural exhibition “Teatro” runs from March 18 th to April 8 th . Saber’s distinct form of metaphysical surrealism is a celebration of the young artist’s native Upper Egypt, its deeply- rooted customs, mythology and captivating long held traditions. Saber’s work skillfully harmonizes imagery of ancient and modern symbolism, and is a veneration of the cradle within which the greatest civilization of antiquity arose along the banks of the Nile, that of Ancient Egypt. His work is a thoughtful homage to the modest and laborious lives of these rural Saidi communities, guardians of Egypt’s most precious gift to the world since time immemorial. Picasso Art Gallery enjoys a busy March and April, hosting a side- by-side exhibition from local duo of artists Neamat El Diwany and Helmy El Touni, from March 8 th to March 21 st . Then, from March 24 th to April 10 th , another duo, this time consisting of veteran Nazli Madkour, whose vast portfolio and career’s work have been a staple of the Egyptian art scene for decades, and Reda Abdel Salam. Nile Art Gallery featured Hana Afifi from March 17 th to celebrate their official re-opening. Zamalek Art Gallery featured a side-by-side exhibition of Egyptian duo Sameh Ismail and Nathan Dous from February 10 th to March 4 th , followed by an unlikely show by H.R.I.H. Prince Joao de Orleans e Braganca, a French- born Brazilian soldier, pilot and airline executive who was also a member of the Brazilian Imperial family. Prince Joao’s exhibition titled “Siwa and Paraty: Sand and Sea” is a captivating collection of photographic pieces from his travels to some of Egypt’s most remote and serenely beautiful extremities.
