26 S E R V E 3 6 0 Cairo Marriott Joins Forces with MBC Hope and the World Food Program to Combat World Hunger ‘Doing Good in Every Direction’ is the guiding principle of the Marriott International’s impactful Serve 360 global initiative. By engaging in various events and activities that aim to serve the broad array of guests, associates and communities Marriott International is involved with, over 100 guests were invited to share iftar together at the Salon Vert ballroom this Ramadan. The purpose of this event was to increase awareness amongst guests regarding the Serve 360 Ramadan campaign titled ‘Sharek Iftarek’ (or ‘Share Your Iftar’) and in conjunction the ShareTheMeal mobile application produced by the World Food Program as a tool with which to help combat world hunger. This impactful event was hosted in close collaboration with MBC Hope and the World Food Program (WFP), who along with the Cairo Marriott proved an effective team in addressing this most important of humanitarian issues. U.N. Goodwill Ambassador and glamorous superstar Hend Sabry was in attendance, and inaugurated the proceedings with a meaningful speech in which she implored the audience to use social media for charitable purposes whilst also reiterating the intent of the ShareTheMeal mobile application. Sabry has been onboard as an ardent supporter of this far-reaching initiative since its inception in 2013. This year, the goal of the initiative was outlined as providing meals for 5,000 individuals across the war-torn territories of Palestine, Syria and Yemen, as aside from hunger being an existent problem in these nations, this has sadly been greatly exacerbated by the scourge of war to devastating levels. Also in attendance as one of the guests of honor was Omar Samra, the well- known adventurer, and various other influencers as well as social and humanitarian activists along with top executives of the WFP. The event also included the hosting of a workshop that was dedicated to brainstorming new, sustainable and innovative ideas and solutions in the fight against world hunger. Concluding the event, and following Hend Sabry’s impassioned plea to the audience, guests shared photos on social media to inspire others using the #ShareTheMeal title. The Cairo Marriott now looks forward to another event in collaboration with MBC Hope and the WFP to do all we can to support the humanitarian problem of world hunger.
