24 E V E N T S Legendary Nawart El Qasr Sohour I n the spirit of Ramadan, the Cairo Marriott welcomed with utmost pleasure its loyal guests at the palace to an unforgettable sohour at the newly revealed stunning pool deck with the palace view as a picturesque backdrop. The theme for this special night was Nawart El Qasr, a welcoming message that stretches back in time to Egypt’s golden age during which the Khedive Ismail arranged for elaborate celebrations to honor his three sons and his only daughter’s wedding ceremony, which was known as Afrah El Angal. In keeping with the night’s theme, the color scheme used consisted of brilliant green and gold hues as this special night paid an authentic and fitting tribute to Afrah El Angal in all senses, resulting in an exquisitely appointed sohour gathering. Star of the ‘The Voice’ television program, Aly El Alfy, transported the seated guests back in time to the era of Afrah El Angal with his unique presence and charming melodies. El Alfy sang a magnificent selection of old ‘tarab’ songs and oriental tunes, after which the band El Nafikha continued proceedings by entertaining guests with their characteristic medleys of oriental folkloric music. Also present was a fortuneteller who was kept busy unveiling the concealed secrets of many of the event’s attendees. The star of the show however was of course the luxurious sohour feast, which the Cairo Marriott chefs and catering team executed superbly to perfection and standards of excellence the hotel is known for. Upon departure, guests were also treated to a one-of-a-kind giveaway that was another tribute to the palace’s history, a Nawart El Qasr candle as a memorable keepsake and a brochure expounding on the intriguing story of Afrah El Angal.
