MARRIOTT BUZZ NO. 15 - 2019

3 A WO R D F R OM T H E G E N E R A L MA N A G E R Warm Wishes Before We Spring Into a Hot and Eventful Summer! Dear Guests, This edition of Buzz takes a leap into the opening of what promises to be a year filled with memorable events, exciting opportunities and a host of valuable information for our dearly valued guests. As winter’s last hoorah gave way to a lovely spring, guests and visitors have been taking advantage of the Cairo Marriott’s princely palatial grounds to spend time with family and friends in the beautiful weather. The Cairo Marriott has some special festive offerings available as we head into Spring, with a special Easter lunch buffet at Omar’s Café, Easter treats at The Bakery and for Sham El Nessim a day later, Omar’s Café will be offering an early bird breakfast and lunch buffets, with musical entertainment at the Promenade Café and more Easter treats and activities for the kids at the Patio. Kicking off, we put the spotlight on the unveiling of Marriott International’s newly reimagined and branded unified travel program, now titled Marriott Bonvoy. The launch of Marriott Bonvoy now reflects the new unmatched benefits, single loyalty portfolio and unmatched experience. It was officially launched on February 13 th and promises to be the most comprehensive and extensive travel program platform available, from which our loyal guests will be able to make their holidays and stays with us all the more exciting, memorable and unique. Of course, my note would not be complete without an account of the Cairo Marriott’s ample serve 360 initiatives that we are always involved in, and this quarter was certainly no exception. Amongst the various events we were proud to participate in the “Row to Awareness” campaign, another successful attempt to raise funds for orphans through sportive competitions, of which the Dar El Sondos orphanage was the beneficiary this time around. Additionally, the Cairo Marriott in collaboration with Hoda El Imam Foundation, launched the “Be Beautiful” workshop across Egypt last November. This initiative is aimed at aiding female cancer patients in learning the hands-on techniques to manage the visible side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. And also part of Marriott International’s companywide Serve 360 initiative for “Doing Good in Every Direction,” we hosted 40 children from the SOS Children’s Village along with their supervisors, for a memorable day of delightful food and fun. This edition also includes a special feature on the Cairo Marriott’s dedicated laundry team, who remain committed to standards of excellence and are always looking for new ways to make your stay as neat and tidy as possible. Our fashion section touches on the legacy that Karl Lagerfeld leaves after his recent passing, whilst the history section takes an intriguing glimpse into several of the Cairo Marriott’s prized cultural artefacts that are part of the tale of this ground’s rich past. Furthermore, we elaborate on Recommitment Week 2019, a companywide event that seeks to recapture and reintegrate the core idea that all associates across all of Marriott Hotels Brand properties around the world recommit to their brand’s ideals and ethics. Last but not least, we take a look back on our first ever and widely popular TED Fellows Salon, which explored the theme topic of “Egypt’s Cultural Past and Present.” Leading the proceedings and sparking spirited debate amongst renowned TED Fellows panelists and attendees, were educational entrepreneur, Karim Abouelnaga, and East African singer and songwriter, Meklit Hadero.
