Meklit Hadero joined Abouelnaga as speaker for the event, Hadero is an Ethiopian American musician whose music is a product of her multicultural in-between experience. Known for her soulful performance style that is a patchwork of distinct musical genres, she is also a co-founder of the Nile Project, which explores the music of the Nile basin. The project combines diverse composition styles from countries within the Nile basin region, including hip-hop, folk and contemporary tunes with instruments and traditions from the past and present. The partnership between Marriott and TED is now in its third eventful year, following its launch in 2016 and has expanded to include more exciting and innovative programming at Marriott Hotels in key destinations worldwide. Following inspirational speeches on culture, education and music, this first edition of TED Fellows Salon in Egypt was followed with a lively cocktail reception held at the Marriott Mena House, Cairo gardens right at the foot of the mighty Pyramids of Giza. This stunning backdrop provided a real-life demonstration of Egypt’s rich cultural heritage and added to the appeal of the extraordinary evening guests were treated to. TED Salons have been hosted previously in several Marriott Hotels globally, including; Bangalore, Bangkok, Abu Dhabi, London and Athens. Marriott Hotels also recently launched its newest Instagram stories series, #MarriottHotelsxTEDFellows, which offers viewers original, inspiring content and an inside look at their favorite idea engine.
